Le Gouvernement est autorisé à consentir à l’érection du Grand-Duché en évêché, sous la condition :

1° Qu’aucun changement ne sera apporté aux rapports existant entre l’autorité civile et l’autorité ecclésiastique, et que leurs droits et leurs obligations continuent à être réglés par les dispositions en vigueur ;

2° Que l’évêque prêtera le serment suivant:

«Je jure par Dieu et sur l’Ecriture Sainte et je promets de garder obéissance et fidélité au Souverain Grand-Duc et au Gouvernement établi par la Constitution du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg et de m’abstenir de tout acte qui soit contraire à la paix publique et à la sécurité du Grand-Duché.»

Art. 2. #art_2 applicable 1873-05-10

Le traitement de l’évêque est fixé à *six mille cinq cents francs*.

Art. 3. #art_3 applicable 1873-05-10

Le siége épiscopal ne peut être occupé que par un Luxembourgeois.

La nomination d’un évêque n’aura d’effet vis-à-vis de l’autorité civile qu’après qu’elle aura été agréée par le Souverain.
