Legal notice
What Lex is, where its texts come from and under which licences, and who hosts it.
What Lex is
Lex is an independent, non-commercial tool for reading Luxembourg and EU law over time: for the texts and dates it holds, it shows a text as it stood on the date you choose, and how it changed. It is free, carries no advertising and asks for no account.
Lex shows the published text of the law. It does not tell you whether or how it applies to your situation and is not legal advice.
No official status
Lex has no official status. It is not a service of the Luxembourg State, of the Service central de législation, which publishes Legilux, or of the Publications Office of the European Union, and none of them endorses it.
Consolidated texts have no legal effect: the authentic texts are those published in the Journal officiel du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg (Mémorial A) and in the Official Journal of the European Union. Where a text on Lex differs from its official publication, the official publication prevails.
Sources and licences
The Luxembourg texts come from Legilux, published by the Service central de législation. Lex shows the text of a file only when Legilux's own records of that file give it the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0); for any other file it shows the official link and not the text.
The EU texts come from the Publications Office of the European Union and carry its acknowledgement, “© European Union, https://eur-lex.europa.eu”. They are reused as the European Union's reuse policy allows (Commission Decision 2011/833/EU on the reuse of Commission documents).
Lex extracts and normalises the texts it shows, and every article it quotes names its official source.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Microsoft, on its Microsoft Azure cloud service, in the France Central region, in France.
